When is Carers Week 2024 Taking Place?
Carers Week 2024 is currently taking place from Monday 10 June to Sunday 16 June 2024.
What is the Theme of Carers Week 2024?
This year’s Carers Week theme is “Putting Carers on the Map”. The focus is ensuring unpaid carers’ voices are heard among communities, politicians, employers, educational establishments, and service providers. The campaign is led by Carers UK, along with support from other charities.
What Future Challenges Are Carers Facing in the UK?
Carers across the UK face several challenges, particularly when caring for family members and friends.
Carers UK’s 2023 State of Caring Survey found more than half of people (57%) had either stopped working or reduced their working hours due to the stress of balancing care and work. It has led to 49% of carers seeing their income reduced by over £1,000 per month.
With the UK expected to have an ever-increasing ageing population, the number of older people is projected to increase to 23% by 2040. This has created several challenges for how carers care for family members.
Things to do for Carers Week 2024
As a carer, there are many things you can get involved with for Carers Week 2024. Donating to Carers UK, campaigning to make carers more visible or holding a coffee and cake morning are a few activities you can do in your community.
Finding and Accessing Support for Carers
Accessing support as an unpaid carer can be challenging. In the UK, there are many resources and information you can access. The Carers Trust has lots of informative resources about accessing financial support as a carer, alongside health and wellbeing and much more. Carers can also access support via the National Health Service (NHS), Mind and Forward Carers.
