What is Live-in Care?
Live-in care is a type of personalised care service where the carer lives at the client’s home, providing them with support and companionship in the comfort of their own house and with familiar surroundings.
If you chose to opt for live-in care services
, you would have a carer on hand at all times, providing you with professional healthcare, along with assistance for bathing and other everyday tasks. Your live-in carer will also be able to assist you throughout the night if needs be, ensuring you get a peaceful and comfortable nights sleep.
Are live-in Care Services Right for You?
If you’re someone who values your independence, yet is aware that as you get older you need more help and support for daily tasks, live-In care services are probably right for you. If you need more assistance with activities such as bathing, cooking and cleaning, a 24h live-in carer will be able to fully support you, ensuring that you do not burden yourself with too many chores and that you avoid any accidents.
If you require around the clock 24 hour care, this doesn’t have to mean moving out of your home. If you choose domiciliary care services
such as live-in care, your own personal carer would be able to provide you with the very best care for all required tasks, from administering medication and assisting with domestic duties, to providing you with companionship and ensuring that your quality of life is not affected.
In addition, this type of home care service is entirely personalised, which means that your carer would work to your timetable and adjust to your lifestyle, in order to ensure a seamless transition for you and your loved ones. Live-in care also ensures the very highest quality of service, as you will get to know one another and develop a close and understanding relationship.
Unlike other types of specialist care services, live-in care has the benefit of providing clients with invaluable companionship
; as well as someone who can assist you with medication, bathing and domestic tasks, you can find a friend in your carer. Your carer will be someone who can support you, with whom you can share all your thoughts and feelings, building a bond of trust and true friendship.

A recent study reveals that we need to think more carefully about old age and what will happen when we get there.
It seems like old age is something of a taboo subject in modern society. We don't want to think about getting old, and so we don't talk about it - we just push it to the back of our minds and try to forget about the fact that nobody stays young forever.
But recently-published statistics suggest that we should be talking about this topic a lot more. According to this article
from PR Newswire...
- ...97% of people aged 75+ would prefer to live in their own homes (as opposed to a residential care home).
- ...only 54% of people believe that they will have the option of living at home in their final years.
- ...23% of people have no idea what will happen to them in their old age.
- ...86% of those polled have never discussed their wishes regarding old age care with loved ones.
These numbers are very revealing. Firstly, they prove something that most of us already suspected: very few people (only 3% of those polled) would choose to leave their homes behind and live in a care home. Beyond that, though, the report shows that we need to talk more openly about old age.
Here are two reasons why:
- Almost half of those polled did not think that there would be any alternative to living in a residential care home. This is not true - companies like Sova Healthcare work hard to provide high-quality care in the client's own home, and even difficult circumstances such as dementia and terminal illness can be catered for. We need to change people's perspective on old age care, and this will not happen unless we start talking about it.
- According to this survey, most people do not discuss old age with their loved ones and make a plan for their later years. Sitting down with your family and having a conversation about your wishes could well make the final years of your life far more pleasant - after all, if you tell them what you want, this puts them in a far better position to help you get it.
Although we don’t doubt that a nursing home has a place in
the care world, there are many instances when live in care is preferable, and
certainly more desirable. To help you understand why this is we have come up
with 5 advantages that live in care has over living in a care home.
One on One Care
The first and perhaps most obvious advantage to live in care
is that the support and assistance is given on a one-to-one basis. This extra
attention means the highest level of care can be administered, and a greater relationship
between carer and patient can blossom.
Highest Level of Support
The structure of a care-home means that vital issues and
instances may go unreported on the changeover, but with live in care they can
provide around-the-clock support – which is of a great benefit to anyone
needing a substantial amount of care.
On top of needing care, the thought of moving out of your
family home adds an extra burden and stress on the situation – live in care
means you can stay in the comfort of your own home while still benefitting from
Having care on a one-on-one to basis means that not only are
you receiving more focused care-plans, but it also allows care-givers and
clients to form closer bonds. This works for both parties as it provides
companionship for those needing care, and friendship for those administering
Most providers of healthcare at home can tailor individual
plans to meet the needs of that particular client, and the fact all of this is delivered
on a one-to-one basis in familiar surroundings means there is complete flexibility
to suit their personal needs.
